Celebrating exactly 150 years of the metre, the kilogram and the second on World Metrology Day (where metrology is the science of measurement) we are joined by the National Physical Laboratory.

In this workshop you will:

  • learn about how the units of measurement we use today began,
  • participate in an on-the-spot UK-wide challenge to find out how different (or similar) school equipment is,
  • hear about exciting nano-technology – to celebrate the International Year of Quantum.

Each class will need some paper, 30 cm rulers, 10 pencils (preferably used) per group of about 5 students and one set of kitchen scales and a clock with a second hand per classroom.

*This virtual primary school session will take place using MS Teams Live. The platform has safeguarding built-in to make it a safe online environment, especially for young people, including no webcams or microphones and a live Q&A function which is fully moderated.

Suitable for children in KS2 (7-11 years old).
