What is Aqua Innovation?

Aqua Innovation is a KS3 initiative aimed at getting secondary school students interested and involved in saving water and improving the sustainability of their school. It empowers a team of students to engage the whole school community to save water, save energy and save money by developing a water saving campaign. It comes as Southern Water is installing 500,000 water meters for customers across the South East to help secure water resources for the future. (for more information visit www.southernwater.co.uk/metering)

Aqua Innovation works closely with the National Curriculum and aims to enhance teaching and learning by encouraging students to use a process of investigation and action to solve an urgent problem. It also provides a structured framework for connecting your school with Southern Water, environmental educators Global Action Plan and experts in Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM). The school Student Action Team will be asked to investigate how much water their school uses and to design an innovative product, service or campaign that will reduce the water usage. Students will engage the school community to change attitudes and behaviours towards water usage.

Friday 9th November saw the first school to begin Southern Water’s Aqua Innovation project this year. The project has attracted four local schools this year; Walderslade Girls, Robert Napier, Chatham Boys and Thamesview. We are very excited to hear the student’s ideas and we will keep you updated.
