On 5th July 2012, the Big Bang South East Young Scientists and Engineers Fair took place in Crawley. This was a fun interactive event which was attended almost 2000 young people aged between 9 and 19 years old.
Activities for the day included hands on activities at the event including “Drive the Bloodhound” and the KNEX Rocket car on a elevated track arranged by Bloodhound SSC. And a self- contained mobile collaboration demonstration van was set up by Cisco Network on Wheels (NoW).
The main aim of the event was to promote STEM and to announce the winners of the regional heats of the prestigious National Science and Engineering Competition. Local schools were highly successful and won the following awards:

Report from STEM Ambassador
Myself and several other STEM ambassadors had the opportunity to support the Bloodhound SSC team at the Crawley ‘Big Bang’ event on 5th July 2012, we spent the day talking to students about the many different aspects of the car and components, making and testing mini Bloodhound models, running various interactive Bloodhound experiments and supervising the Bloodhound driving simulator. Finally as sponsor of Bloodhound, we (Cisco) also took our NOW (Network on Wheels) van to the site to demonstrate Cisco’s video and collaboration technologies with the students in an interactive way.
Very enjoyable day, I know the students got a lot out of it as did I.
