Fort Pitt Grammar School’s science club continues to grow in popularity and innovation.

You may have already read about the Endeavour Club in 2014 where we reported on the wide range of activities and experiments being undertaken by students from the school. The club were not only celebrating their achievements but also looking for support from STEM Ambassadors. With so many keen attendees and many activities already completed the school teachers invited STEM Ambassadors to visit the club to provide a demonstration or interactive experience for the students.

The brilliant STEM Ambassador David from Axia Chemicals responded to their request and bought some sensational activities into the school for the students to try. Ian Wesson, Lead Practitioner in the Science Department said “The students were thrilled and fascinated to have experienced a fun hands-on session involving many different aspects of chemistry and physics... It is sessions like these that inspire the next generation of chemists…This has given us a real boost” The club is made possible by the schools science teacher’s ongoing commitment to making STEM accessible to students.

Furthermore STEM Ambassador David was able to source some essential chemicals with which means the club are now able to continue investigating fragrance formulation. David is a reoccurring workshop provider at the annual Chemistry at Work event organised by Kent & Medway STEM, his sessions have previously involved dipping flowers in liquid nitrogen and dissolving Styrofoam in acetone.
