Senior HR Project Coordinator - Social Value

How did you first become interested in STEM as a career?
When I did a 3 month placement in the construction industry at Kier Group, where I now work. A friend suggested the placement to me, and I enjoyed it.

What pathway did you follow to get to where you are?
After school, I went to University and studied English Literature. I didn’t want to follow the traditional route of becoming a teacher or going into journalism. So I did a placement for Kier whilst at university. It was in the summer holidays and I was in the bid writing team but rotated around different departments. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and when it ended I was asked to get in contact when I graduated. Which is what I did. I applied for a role after I graduated and managed to start my career. Three years later and I am still there with the same amount of passion and enthusiasm.

What inspires and enthuses you about your work and STEM?
I love seeing the end result. I really enjoy being a part of something bigger that effects and shapes millions of lives everyday. Being able to drive past a building or road, and pointing it out to family and friends saying I did that, I helped build that. It's really satisfying to know that you are making a real impact and difference to others, whilst seeing something tangible as the outcome. I also love how enthused my other colleagues are about their work – and how we all work together to achieve the best results.
