Embrace National Careers Week and join STEM Ambassador Jessica, an Imperial College Research Fellow, for an exciting live talk.
During the session, Jessica will explain what it’s like to work as a conservation biologist at Imperial College London and explore two of the biggest challenges facing wildlife today: climate change and habitat loss. Rising temperatures, extreme weather, and the conversion of natural habitats for farming and development are transforming ecosystems across the globe. These changes don’t just affect animals, they also impact people. When species disappear or animal communities shift, it can disrupt vital services like pollination and even increase risks such as disease.
Jessica will share insights from her research and explain how understanding these changes is essential for protecting biodiversity and human well-being. She will also highlight how a career in conservation science combines research, problem-solving, and real-world impact, giving young people a clear view of future STEM and green career paths.
This live talk, aimed at secondary aged students (most suitable for KS3-5), will be informative and engaging, and there will be the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.
*This virtual secondary school assembly talk will take place using MS Teams Live. The platform has safeguarding built-in to make it a safe online environment, especially for young people, including no webcams or microphones and a live Q&A function which is fully moderated.
