Celebrating World Metrology Day (where metrology is the science of measurement) we are joined by the National Physical Laboratory.

Why is measurement important in sport? How do small differences make a big impact on performance? Using fun, real‑world examples, NPL talks about how measurement is vital in sport. Students will take part in a short hands‑on activity using rulers to test their reaction time, investigating the difference between their dominant and non-dominant hands.

For the hands-on activity you will require the following:

  • A 30 cm ruler
  • Two people
  • Paper and pencil for results and calculation

*This virtual primary school session will take place using MS Teams Live. The platform has safeguarding built-in to make it a safe online environment, especially for young people, including no webcams or microphones and a live Q&A function which is fully moderated.

Suitable for children in KS2 (7-11 years old).
