Ignite imaginations with FREE green-tech STEM lessons and resources for 11-14 year-olds - Teach Meet

We are delighted to be joined by ‘Professor’ Jeni Trice from Get with the Program to discuss the opportunity to run Net Zero Coding Adventures for free in your school.

‘Professor’ Trice will provide an online demonstration for teachers wanting to find out more about their exciting Net Zero Coding Adventure for 11-14 year-olds! This will include talking you through all the best bits of our Net Zero Coding Adventure, designed for ages 11-14, so you can decide when you’d like to take part in one of their Bupa-funded opportunities – free in November, March or June/July!

The Teach Meet will cover:

    • a quick overview of the 15 minute Net Zero assembly, talking about: what carbon emissions and net zero actually are; technology careers (including data science, computer science, and how they contribute to AI); plus how students can be part of making a difference to their planet and school, and learn about ‘Tech for Good’!
    • a quick demo of the ‘Grover the Rover’ virtual data collection vehicle and how to program her (using block or Python) to drive around a VEXcode VR virtual school, collecting environmental data
    • a quick review of how to access the content, ensure students can use the simple template code, and what allowlisting you will need your technical support to check (no downloads or logins required)
    • a chat to talk through the 2 activity sessions, including how to input data to reflect your own school’s environmental impact

Net Zero Coding Adventure overview

Thanks to funding from Bupa, Get with the Program has the opportunity to offer UK secondary schools FREE, remotely run, electrifying Net Zero Coding Adventures for 11-14 year-olds. This is available during the month of November – a month which includes COP30 and Green Careers Week! This opportunity would usually cost each school £720.

Students join ‘Professor’ Trice as she inspires them to consider green-tech careers and code a pathway to net zero – sparking creativity, smashing stereotypes, and empowering students to tackle today’s global challenges.

The Net Zero Coding Adventure is teacher-led, and includes a fun 15-minute streamed video assembly and two 45 minute follow up activities where the students program a virtual rover (using block coding or Python) to explore a digital school, collecting real-world data which can be used creatively to persuade those around them to change their environmental habits!
