The Royal Society’s Partnership Grants
To help develop your practical STEM opportunities for your students, you can still apply for the Royal Society's Partnership Grants scheme which provides grants of up to £3,000 for schools and colleges to work in partnership with STEM professionals to design and run a long-term investigative project. This includes Tomorrow’s Climate Scientists, a part of the grant scheme that supports projects specifically looking at local climate and biodiversity issues.
These projects are undertaken by the students, with regular STEM partner support, to help develop their key skills and gain insight into potential STEM careers. Grant activity can support delivery of the curriculum, teacher’s professional development and reaching Gatsby Careers Benchmarks.
The current grant round is open for applications, and there is lots of support and guidance available to schools interested in using the grant to improve or develop upon their current practical STEM offerings. You can book to attend an online session to find out more about the scheme at: https://rsproduction.powerappsportals.com/events/ The next online session is taking place on 5 November 2024.
The Brian Cox School Experiments
You can bring some of today's most important STEM topics to life in the classroom as the Royal Society has launched a new set of Brian Cox school experiments, featuring Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock. The Brian Cox school experiments are a series of free videos and resources designed to inspire and engage students with practical science. All featured topics link directly to the STEM curriculum, with new secondary level resources focusing on new and emerging STEM technologies. Each topic in the series contains ready-to-use worksheets for students, alongside instructional videos and guidance notes for teachers and technicians to run practical experiments.
The experiments use accessible materials and are designed to make running these experiments as easy as possible for you. Paired with the experiment videos are interviews with Professor Brian Cox and STEM professionals working in academia and industry, who discuss their cutting-edge work, career pathways, and skills required for their fields. These videos could be used as stand-alone STEM careers resources.
