On 11th and 12th June the Hub successfully hosted the Virtual Science Jamboree. The 2-day event contained 2 shows and 18 activities. This event was supported by Pfizer, John Coad, Canterbury Christ Church University, Shout Education, A Pearson Growers and LGC and without their support this virtual event would not have taken place.

This was the 25th Anniversary of the Science Jamboree. Usually at the Jamboree primary children participated in a range of hands-on activities run by scientists from Discovery Park and other organisations. The bonus of having a virtual Jamboree was that all the activities were on offer. The activities were planned so they could be carried out easily at home or school using everyday equipment.

Hellen Ward, Director of The STEM Hub, said: “The event normally engaged 2000 children who would have experienced the show and 3 workshops, but by having a virtual event, more learners in more diverse places have engaged with more activities. The event provided opportunities for parents and teachers to work with their children and feedback suggests the event was enjoyed by schools and families across our region and beyond.”

The feedback has been extremely positive and the Jamboree has been viewed over 10,000 times. Teachers provided a range of feedback:

• ‘I really enjoyed the Jamboree as did all my students. Thank you and your team for all the support and all the wonderful things you are doing’. (Primary School Teacher from Southend).
• ‘Thank you so much for the amazing virtual Jamboree. It was absolutely amazing!!! I have loved it, the teachers have, as have the children so far! Day 2 still to come.’ (Primary School Teacher from Sevenoaks)
