 June 30 2025 | Surrey | Views: 198

Carrington School in Redhill, Surrey, is a coeducational secondary academy for students aged 11–16. It offers modern facilities, including new science labs and a dedicated library, and promotes a values-driven ethos focused on aspiration, innovation and respect.

The school was delighted to be supported by The STEM Hub as part of Engineering UK’s Big Bang at Schools programme, which aims to inspire young people aged 11–14 to explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and maths.

On 30 June, around 420 students from Years 7 and 8 were treated to an unforgettable experience of a live Magic Science Show, delivered by Ian B Dunne, science presenter and professional performer. His dynamic performance brought science to life through a high-energy blend of magic, comedy, and real scientific demonstrations.

The show featured everything from colour-changing reactions to explosions and even levitation, sparking excitement and curiosity among the students. It was a fun, memorable way to deepen the students understanding of science and with just the right amount of bangs, whizzes, and weird smells to make it truly unforgettable!

Here’s what some of the students had to say about their experience:

  • "Found Ian really interesting and funny. It was a great Show" - A, Year 7
  • "It was a great show I really enjoyed his jokes" - M, Year 7
  • "Made science interesting for me" - L, Year 7
  • "Thought the show was really fun and interesting, I got to see things I wouldn't normally see in class" - J, Year 8
  • "Funny to see a saw played as an instrument" - E, Year 8
  • "It was great to see so many of the students engaged and curious about the show" - Teacher of Science
  • "Found the show really engaging as a non-science teacher" - Teaching Assistant
