PGCE Secondary Maths and Science STEM Ambassadors from Canterbury Christ Church University, delivered two weeks of free interactive maths and science activities in a range of Kent and Medway schools. These one hour workshops for Year 7 and 8 students used innovative ways to enrich learning in Science and Maths.
The sessions were given inventive names such as Criminal Minds, which saw pupils solving a murder mystery using various mathematical tools; Mission Impossible: a mathematical mission to get into a volt and crack a safe; The Number Games- five maths challenges based on the story of the Hunger Games. Science was the context for the Lord of the Rings where pupils undertook testing of materials, as well as a floating and sinking raft challenge and Natural selection was the focus for both the Minions and Monsters ink themed activities.
Some of the STEM Ambassadors wore fancy dress linked to the theme of their activity to create excitement and featured in the local press - View the newspaper article.
Kent & Medway STEM would like to thank the schools involved for welcoming the STEM Ambassadors into their schools. Schools who participated include: Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School, Dover Christ Church Academy, Marlowe Academy, Mascalls School, Norton Knatchbull School, Oasis Academy Hextable, Rainham School for Girls, Sittingbourne Community College, Spires Academy, St Augustine’s Academy, The Skinners School and Westlands School.
