Mars Poster Competition

 February 28 2021 | Gallery | Views: 973

To celebrate our Christmas Lecture with Libby Jackson, the author launched a competition to win signed copies of her book, Space Explorers. Libby Jackson is a British space exploration expert who works for the UK Space Agency, who spoke at our Primary Christmas Space Talk. You can watch the talk on STEM@Home in the Space section, here: https://thestemhub.org.uk/stem-at-home/item/christmas-space-talk-with-libby-jackson

All our entries created posters to fulfil the following brief: As humans head to Mars, we need to think about what we can learn about the planet. What would we need to survive on the planet? Your challenge is to design a habitation module for the astronauts to live in on the surface of Mars.

Entries had to think about eating, sleeping, climate, energy and exploring.

The images below showcase see our amazing entries, listed below:

Image 1: Amelia (aged 8) designed a pod with a looking post for scientists to observe Mars.
Image 2: Anaya (aged 5) sent polar bears to Mars wearing helmets to provide them oxygen.
Image 3: Belinay (aged 8) added solar panels for hot air and has growing organic food on the surface.
Image 4:  Esila (aged 9) has created great living conditions and a safe climate for astronauts.
Image 5: Bella (aged 10) designed underground living and straps to secure astronauts in zero gravity!
Image 6: Charlie used bubble pods for astronauts to live and breathe where there is no oxygen.
Image 7: Ebony added a wind farm to this Mars settlement to create renewable energy.
Image 8: Ellis has created a structure for protection, built into the land on the surface of Mars.
Image 9: Henry added pipes for oxygen, where grass and trees can grow in this Mars town.
Image 10:  Immi planned a huge Mars settlement with oxygen and transport roads.
Image 11: Isla’s dome gets its energy from a wind turbine and there is a drill to dig for water.
Image 12: Issy included a Mars volcano, with a settlement on wheels to explore and discover.
Image 13: Joseph (aged 11) included a lab and watch tower for scientific investigation.
Image 14: Missy included recycling on this Mars settlement to keep the environment clean.
Image 15: Molly (aged 10) created a town and farms with water storage to be sustainable.
Image 16:  Molly added oxygen tanks and gravity shoes and tyres to keep everyone on the ground!
Image 17: Nandini (aged 7) brought liquid food for Mars settlers to eat while they build.
Image 18: Roo (aged 9) designed oxygen pipes and a storage crate to be refilled every 3 days.
Image 19: Arianwen (aged 12) outlined problems and solutions for survival on Mars.
