Hosted at Brooklands Museum on Tuesday 11 October 2022, the Nuffield Research Placement 2022 Celebration Event recognised the achievements of this year’s cohort of Year 12 students who completed placements within Higher Education and STEM Industry.
This year, there was a lot to celebrate. With placements provided by both universities and STEM industry, research focussed on a huge variety of STEM-related subjects. A total of 54 students successfully completed their collaboration and academic research reports and posters, to showcase their contribution to the work of our providers. Many providers worked with multiple students, creating research teams, working together with a common goal.
Returning to face-to-face and hybrid placements has been a highlight of this year, with students witnessing their learning in context and realising the many applications of what they have learned in school. A second highlight was working with new project providers to add to the legacy of ongoing providers and recognising the contribution of STEM Ambassadors. Students were provided with tours, given practical and lab experience, contributing to team meetings, and adding valuable insight to the wider work of their placement organisation.
Year in Numbers: This year, we had 75 students who completed the placement experience and submitted final reports and posters, working with 58 supervisors within 32 placement provider organisations. With 10 organisations within Higher Education and 22 in STEM Industry, placement topics linked to 16 different STEM subject areas and were hosted in 7 counties across the South East region.
Student Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with commonly used words including ‘insightful’, ‘Improving Skills and Knowledge’, ‘Guidance’, and ‘Enjoyable’. Other students reported,
Congratulations to this year’s cohort of Nuffield Research Placement students and thank you to their inspirational supervisors!
