National Schools Geology Challenge 2022

The Geological Society's National Schools Geology Challenge, is now open for submissions for 2022.

Who is it for? Any students studying geology, geography, or science A-levels in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or Advanced Highers in Scotland.

The competition is split into two rounds, the qualifiers followed by the finals. For the qualifiers, students need to present a geoscience topic, for an online audience, of non-expert 16-24 year olds. This can be in any format or style, including a filmed presentation, documentary, or infographic such as a poster or cartoon strip. Submissions can also be designed for social media such as Tiktok or Instagram.

Key dates!
Don’t miss the closing date for the qualifiers on 4th February 2022 with the ten highest scoring entries being invited to the finals. The finals will the take place on 24th March 2022, either in person or via zoom, where the students will complete a problem-solving challenge within their team.

What can the students win?
The overall winning team will receive a trophy, certificates to all team members and £200 to use towards geoscience education in their school, along with a year’s fellowship to The Geological Society. A runner-up prize is also available of certificates for team members and £100 towards geoscience education in their school.
