The Big Bang competition seeks to inspire young people’s inquisitive minds to think big, challenge facts, ask questions and invent solutions through science and engineering.

Previous project titles have included, ‘Plastic Filtering Robot Whale’, ‘Why should we wash our hands?’ and ‘Building for Climate Change’. Absolutely anything STEM related goes, from creative original ideas to developing existing projects from resources provided on the Get Inspired web page.

The competition is free and open to all students aged 11-19 years studying in the UK and competitors are able to enter one project either individually or as a team.

The Prizes are split into two categories - Science and Engineering. Each category is then further subdivided into, junior, intermediate and senior, depending on which school year the entrant is in. The top prize in each subdivision will win £750 and a further three runners up will each win £250. Further to this there are two overall winners, UK Young Scientist of the Year and UK Young Engineer of the Year, each winning a monetary prize of £2000. Other special awards and prestigious titles are available, meaning plenty of opportunity for young people’s enthusiasm, ingenuity, and work to be acknowledged.

The closing date for entries for 2021- 2022 academic year, is the 4th April 2022 at 5pm.
