Bouncing Beans

  Primary | Energy | Views: 1027

You will Need:

  • A paper template
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • A marble or small ball

What to Do:

  1. Print off the worksheet as a template to cut out your bean, or draw your own and add any designs you like!
  2. Once you have cut out your bean template, glue each part labelled ‘a’ together.
  3. Glue the back part of the paper labelled ‘b’ to one of the ‘a’ sections.
  4. Remember at this point to put a marble or small ball inside the bean!
  5. Glue down the remaining flap.
  6. The bouncing bean can now move on a slope by itself – try making it move by tilting your hand.
  7. Set up an obstacle course for your bouncing bean, show it off and play tricks on someone, making them wonder…how does it move by itself?

How does it work?

Gravity plays the trick inside the bouncing bean. Gravity has potential energy, pulling objects towards the ground. This causes the marble to roll inside the bouncing bean, dragging it and cause it the flip and move towards the ground. Energy and forces have many effects!
