Fight the Germs!

Germs are types of bacteria and viruses that are harmful and can make us sick. When one person is sick, they can pass these germs on to someone else, or we can get germs from touching dirty things and not washing our hands. Watch the video to see how far germs can spread!

Soap Investigation

You will need:

  • A plate or bowl
  • Water
  • Pepper
  • Washing-up liquid

What to Do:

  1. Fill the plate or bowl with water.
  2. Add pepper to the water – this represents the germs or dirt that we pick up on our hands.
  3. Place a drop of washing-up liquid on your finger – we are going to wash the germs away!
  4. Touch the surface of the water with your finger and see the germs move away!

How to Wash your Hands:

  1. Wet your hands with clean water. It can be warm or cold.
  2. Use soap and lather it by moving your hands together for about 20 seconds.
  3. Make sure you get in between your fingers, on the backs of hands, under your nails and your wrists. These are all places where germs will
  4. be.
  5. Rinse and dry well with a clean towel.
