  Secondary | Materials | Views: 714

  • Watch the video to learn about Danish chemist Sorensen and his work on the pH scale.
  • Learn about the autoionization of water and how this takes place.
  • By converting water to pure water, we can measure when something is purely water. This is how acids and basic solutions are then measured. Does it have more or less hydrogen ions?
  • pH measures hydrogen ions, and Sorensen decided to use a negative log in his pH scale – watch on to find out how and why this was adopted as the measure.
  • pH 7 = neutral
  • pH < 7 = acidic
  • pH > 7 = basic
  • Where do most pH measures of solutions fall? Think about concentration of liquids.
  • What about the red cabbage – how did that work? Learn about the pigments called anthocyanidins and how they response to pH and some real-life examples.
