Northfleet Technical College, an all-boys secondary school for students aged 11yrs up to Sixth Form, was delighted to receive support from Engineering UK's Big Bang at Schools programme.

On July 16th, 40 boys from Years 7-10 kicked off their day with the Science team and Youth Engineers, exploring the science behind car manufacturing. They delved into concepts such as air flow and basic engine mechanics, and learned about various gearing systems that enhance car speed and efficiency. The students then broke into groups to build working gear models, experimenting with different ratios to understand their effects. Using this new-found knowledge, they aimed to create the fastest model cars. By the end of the day, the boys had successfully built several high-performing model cars.

Northfleet Technical College expressed its gratitude to EngineeringUK and The STEM Hub for this valuable experience and looks forward to hosting a similar event next year.
