East Kent Colleges Group is one of the largest further education providers in the South East, offering a wide range of academic, technical and vocational courses that help students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for future study and employment.
On 3 June, around 25 Year 11 and Year 12 students from Canterbury College took part in an inspiring day of hands-on engineering activities designed to showcase the exciting opportunities available within the sector.
The day began with an engaging discussion aimed at challenging common stereotypes and highlighting the diversity of engineering careers and STEM roles. Students were encouraged to see engineering as an inclusive field with opportunities for people from all backgrounds.
Students then spent time in the workshops taking part in a range of practical activities, including 3D scanning, aerodynamics testing and chemical engineering experiments. These hands-on experiences gave them an insight into the skills and technologies used by engineers in industry today.
The visit also included a guided tour of the campus and advice on the university application process, helping students to gain a better understanding of higher education pathways and future career opportunities.
By the end of the day, students had developed a clearer picture of what it is like to study engineering and the wide range of careers the subject can lead to, making for an informative and inspiring experience.
