Thamesview School is a secondary school in Gravesend, Kent, dedicated to providing a supportive and ambitious learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve success both academically and personally.
On 27 March, around 180 Year 10 students at Thamesview School took part in an exciting day of STEM activities organised by The STEM Hub. Throughout the day, students immersed themselves in a range of hands-on challenges designed to develop teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills while showcasing the real-world applications of STEM subjects.
One of the highlights of the day was the Formula 1 challenge, where students designed and built miniature cars before testing them on a track running through the school’s Heart Space. Students explored concepts such as aerodynamics, friction and weight distribution, recording and analysing data to improve their designs. The activity brought engineering and physics to life in a fun and engaging way.
The Forensics challenge also proved hugely popular, with students investigating a staged crime scene using scientific methods to analyse evidence and test hypotheses. Pupils were fascinated by the realistic setup, which included simulated blood, footprints and forensic materials, helping them to see how STEM skills connect to careers in forensics, psychology and criminology.
Meanwhile, the Rocket Blast challenge created plenty of excitement as teams designed and launched rockets on the school field, cheering on their creations and comparing launch heights in friendly competition. The activity encouraged collaboration while reinforcing key learning around aerodynamics and measurement.
The school expressed its gratitude to Canterbury Christ Church University, The STEM Hub and their STEM Ambassadors for delivering such inspiring experiences. Their enthusiasm and expertise helped to build students’ confidence, strengthen teamwork and encourage aspirations towards future STEM careers.
