Congratulations to all the schools in the Kent and Medway area who took part in the Roper Place Design Awards 2013. Local schools that entered include: Invicta Grammar School, Archbishop’s School Canterbury, St Anselm’s Catholic School, Chaucer Technology School, and Community College Whitstable.

The competition was judged by Dr Ajay Sharman, STEMNET; Trish Worthy, Managing Director of Hillside Interiors; and Jonathan Watts, Lenleys Managing Director.

Jonathan said: "They really helped me to visualise the direction in which home decor might evolve…There were certainly some talented designers I can imagine taking orders from in the future…The explanations of the inspiration behind the designs was clear and enlightening."

The Roper Place Award trophy and £250 prize money for Best Overall School Entries was awarded to Archbishop’s School Canterbury. The STEMNET Award trophy and £250 prize money for Innovative use of Science, Technology & Engineering in Design was awarded to Invicta Grammar School Maidstone.

Abbey Beacock, Community College Whitstable, Key Stage 5 2D 1st Prize
Judges comments on Abbey Beacock’s entry: ”I liked the edginess of this design with lovely versatile colours. It is well balanced and contemporary and would make a lively large scale wallpaper mural for a modern interior.”

Jane Watson, The Archbishop’s School Canterbury, Key Stage 4 2D 1st Prize

Natalie Webber, Community College Whitstable, Key Stage 4 2D 2nd Prize
Judges’ comments on Natalie Webber’s entry: “I can see that the original drawing was put through its paces to create a successful repeat. I like that the pattern creates a subtle vertical stripe. The design would work well on a metallic background as a versatile feature wallpaper.”
