GREEN CAREERS
Green Careers is a fast-growing global employment sector, creating a positive impact on the environment and the world we live in. Green jobs and new technologies are being created that will change the world for the better and contribute towards tackling climate change, conserving natural resources and creating sustainable ways of living and working.
In this section, we will promote resources to highlight and inspire young people about the various green career paths and opportunities available. This could be from traditional sectors such as construction and manufacturing, or in new, emerging green sectors such as renewable energy and energy efficiency. As industry works towards a ‘greener’ future for our planet, many people are required to develop new solutions and technologies that will create new roles that didn’t previously exist.
Did you know? A green career can be in any industry, it does not have to scream ‘green.’ Green skills apply to abilities, values, knowledge and technical skills that can all be adapted to support a career within any industry.
Green Careers Week, usually takes place during the first week in November, inspires young people by promoting diverse, impactful career paths focused on environmental preservation. This week-long event highlights roles across all industries that contribute to sustainability, emphasizing the green skills needed to adapt, innovate and foster a more environmentally resilient planet.
The STEM Hub, in collaboration with Climate Ambassadors, has developed a series of career talks designed for primary and secondary students. These sessions aim to educate and inspire young people to explore green career opportunities, highlighting pathways to make a positive environmental impact across various industries. If you have any questions you would like to ask Climate Ambassadors, please e-mail: askanambassador@canterbury.ac.uk and we will pass it on to a STEM expert.
