Alice is a research scientist at the Barts Cancer Institute, within Queen Mary University of London. Her research uses samples from patients who are registered on clinical trials to look for biological markers that will improve treatment. For her research, patient samples are collected, and then nucleic acids are extracted and examined using various techniques before analysis and data visualization. She completed a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Birmingham and was the first person in her family to be offered a PhD, which she completed at Oxford University. Alice will be speaking about her routes into becoming a research scientist, what the job entails, benefits/challenges of the role, what grades/qualifications you will need, and then there will be time for a questions and answers.
