Chemistry at Work

Chemistry at Work Events are sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry with funding from the Wolfson Foundation. They offer school students the opportunity to appreciate the place of chemistry in everyday life and the world of work, with particular emphasis on what is happening in their local area. They aim to show a positive image of the chemical sciences as exciting, interesting and wealth creating activities that ware worth considering as a career.

Kent & Medway STEM at Canterbury Christ Church University hosted an event on 11th July which was attended by 10 schools in the region. A series of short workshops took place throughout the day. These were:

  • Identification at Speed of Light
  • Medicinal Chemistry
  • Crystallisation and Organic Synthesis
  • Scientific Principles of Fire
  • Cooking with Chemicals - The Art of Formulation Science
  • How Does an Anaerobic Energy System Work?
  • How Hair Colouring Works
  • Inferno – The science of Fire
