 July 02 2013 | Kent & Medway | Views: 1706

More than 20 teachers and student teachers met with 30 delegates from the horticultural/agricultural industry, plant science sector and the wholesale/retail sector to discuss the problem of declining numbers of students studying plant and agricultural science, and to agree a plan to address the issue.

As a consequence of the conference, a plan of action was agreed that involved Exploring with horticultural and agricultural industry and Canterbury Christ Church University, a possible partnership pilot project involving 5 Kent schools over 2 years, providing direct support for plant and horticultural sciences as a career choice for students and promoting related educational activities.

In conclusion, the conference has provided valuable links between the industry and the education sector and has acted as a springboard for a range of actions that should kick-start a growing interest in the science behind plants and food production.
