Our team in Essex used an existing relationship, held by the Hub, to initiative a new non-school network for STEM with the local West Essex Girl Guides. This new relationship, kick-started by a whole-day event for over 100 girl guides, has led to ongoing training and development of Guide Leaders to run STEM workshops and activities.
Four local ambassadors including experts from the electronics industry, an experienced radio programmer, and Road Traffic Engineer led different workshops looking at air pressure by firing rockets and reading radio signals from a passing aeroplane. Following this day, three ambassadors led training sessions for local leaders with activities they can run during their weekly Guide sessions including online references and learning materials that can be used to engage the girls in a wide range of STEM related activities.
