Celebration to applaud the remarkable achievements of our talented young researchers who participated in the 2023 Nuffield Research Placements Programme

The STEM Hub was delighted to welcome many of this year’s Nuffield Research Placement students and project providers to Brookland’s Museum in Surrey on Thursday 5 October to celebrate and recognise the fantastic achievements of this year’s cohort of students.

Nuffield Placements are engaging, real-life workplace experiences, where talented Year 12 (or equivalent) students are placed within Higher Education and STEM industries spanning a wide range of disciplines. The programme offers an amazing opportunity for students to apply skills and knowledge learned at school while providing a meaningful contribution to the work of researchers and industry professionals.

It was a joyous event and guests were able to take a tour of the iconic Brooklands Museum, the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. The audience enjoyed informative presentations from an array of this year’s project providers, some being valued STEM Ambassadors, who detailed elements of the research projects their students undertook. The evening concluded with the young researchers being awarded their completion certificates for their great achievements.

Lydia Ahern, South East England Regional Coordinator for the programme said: “The hard work from all involved has been inspiring. Giving up their summer time to invest in their future, these resolute students thoroughly engaged throughout the entire process. We also applaud the commitment of the project providers who guided and supported students with amazing STEM research projects and their final works were incredibly impressive. Programmes like this are important to help students understand why we study STEM subjects and how they can help further their career paths."
