STEM Conference 2012

On 6th July 2012 Kent & Medway STEM held a conference at Canterbury Christ Church University. The day consisted of a combination of speeches by Keynote speakers and interactive workshops.
The first Key Note Speaker was Jon Tickle, who is the co-presenter of Brainiac: Science Abuse, was a physics graduate of the University of Leicester. His best-known stunt, shown on other shows such as QI and Myth busters was of Tickle walking on a pool full of custard powder and water.

He delivered an interactive talk on STEM, the way to engage the youngster of today and anecdotes from his time on TV.

The second Key Note Speaker was Dr Matt Pritchard award-winning magician, comedian and science communicator.

His amazing performances both inspire and inform. Previously he conducted atomic physics research at Durham University, where he won the Institute of Physics Postgraduate lecturer award, before working for the Education department at Thinktank Science Museum in Birmingham. In addition to this he has 12 years’ experience working as a professional magician.
His presentation created challenges for students to think like scientists and magicians to uncover the truth behind illusions.
