Tomato Tasting at Thanet Earth

 February 05 2015 | Kent & Medway | Views: 2018

STEM Ambassadors and Teachers met at Thanet Earth to network and sample the tasty produce.

Thanet Earth kindly hosted the latest STEM Ambassador and STEM Teacher networking event in their education room overlooking the tomato greenhouse on Thursday 5 February. The event was free to attend but spaces ‘sold out’ very quickly with many keen to get a peek inside the greenhouses.

Each attendee took part in a sensory evaluation analysing a wide variety of red, yellow and orange tomatoes as well as cucumbers and peppers all grown at Thanet Earth.

“It was a pleasure to visit Thanet Earth recently, supporting British grown food, under 4 large glasshouses. It was good to understand the sustainable and low carbon approach to production and more critically have local teachers and STEM Ambassadors, understand the incredible science, engineering and technology that goes in to the production. Any future schools visiting or linked to projects with Thanet Earth, will surely be inspired by the amazing glasshouses, education sensory workshops that have developed, along with ability to be involved in actually tasting tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, grown from the site. Excellent. Piccolo tomatoes were my personal favourite!!!
Dr Ajay Sharman, STEMNET South East Regional Network Manager

Everyone was treated to a selection of produce to take home and share with their families and friends courtesy of Thanet Earth.
